Senator Lindsey Graham drops out of race
Lindsey Graham has dropped out of the race for the White House. Graham during the almost two minute long video. Rand Paul, who is also running for president, and some other Republicans with a libertarian bent.
Graham said he was the only Republican candidate who was arguing to deploy US ground troops in Iraq and Syria in order to fight the Islamic State during the first televised debate among GOP hopefuls four months ago. “They don’t even speak the same language”.
He has expressed particular bitterness towards party frontrunner Mr Trump, describing him as a xenophobic bigot for his comments about Muslims. Ultimately, however, he became the fourth casualty in the race for the Republican nomination, after Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
Donald Trump, who Graham frequently charged was a disaster for the GOP, returned the feeling on Monday at a rally in MI. “I’m exhausted of telling people things they want to hear that I know we can’t do”.
The announcement came on the last day for Graham to strike his name from the February 20 S.C. Republican primary ballot. “When it comes to being Commander-In-Chief, experience will matter” he said.
“I’m extremely sad. He was nasty to me”.
More immediately, Graham’s exit could shuffle allegiances in his home state.
“Lindsey is a good guy, a very amusing guy”, Rubio said.
The latest polls in Iowa, New Hampshire, and SC never gave the Graham campaign much to brag about. “His leadership on foreign policy is critical to the party, and it would’ve been important in the race”. The most recent Winthrop University poll showed Kasich at 1 percent support, with Graham at 2 percent. “Best wishes to him”.
Graham had lobbed several attacks at Sen. So what does Team Jeb get thanks to the defunct Graham campaign?
“Nobody is more clear-eyed about ISIS than my friend @GrahamBlog. I am not going to suspend my desire to help my country”. “I wish he would have at least stayed until SC”. At that time, no one stepped forward to join me. “God bless our fighting men and women & God bless America”.
175-c-21-(Mark Smith, AP White House correspondent)-“to take sides”-AP White House Correspondent Mark Smith reports it’s unclear how Graham’s departure will affect the GOP contest”. It goes back to Taft and Eisenhower through Goldwater. “Then George W. Bush and (political adviser Karl) Rove resplit the party by corporatizing it and introducing the concept of big-government Republicanism”.
