Senator Mike Lee Opposes Speaker Ryan’s Obamacare-Lite Bill
After weeks of infighting, House Republicans on Monday unveiled a bill that would repeal and replace Obamacare, in the hope that setting events in motion will impel members of Congress to set aside their reservations and pass it.
Not that its death is assured, mind you. House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., plans to send the bill to the House floor for a vote and then sent to the Senate by the beginning of April. But the reaction to this bill shows that unity on this issue will be awfully hard to come by.
Instead, it’s using a process called ‘reconciliation.’ Republicans can’t repeal the ACA, but they can pick it apart by undoing key provisions. He also worked in the Obama Administration as the special assistant to the president for healthcare and economic policy on the National Economic Council, helping to shape what became the ACA.
Overall, Drudge draws 1.5 billion page views per month, making it the one of the most-read news sites on the web, even beating the likes of Disney Media Networks, which includes ABCNews.com and ESPN.com; Yahoo; Google; Time Warner and Fox Entertainment Groups. In “WikiLeaks Exposes CIA’s Covert Global Hacking Program”, the Daily Caller similarly emphasized numerous organization’s claims, including its assertion “that CIA malware can be used to “penetrate, infest and control” Android and iPhone software ‘that runs or has run presidential Twitter accounts.'” But it also described Julian Assange’s accompanying statement as “rambling” and wrote, “The veracity of the documents has not been verified and it is not yet clear whether the release marks a major breach of the CIA”. But they failed for years to coalesce around an alternative.
But on the other hand, it turns out that the public likes most of what the ACA does. Almost half of those gained insurance under an expansion of Medicaid, which would end in 2020 under the Republicans’ new plan, then face funding caps. During a meeting with 20 House GOP whips on Tuesday, President Trump said he would do everything he can to get the Republican
House just introduced the bill to #RepealAndReplace #Obamacare. And several other senators object to the bill’s defunding of Planned Parenthood. Dismissing the concern that 10 million to 20 million will lose coverage is politically daft.
Not even 24 hours after the release of the bill, Republicans have already started to revolt. And with the election of President Donald Trump, they finally had a realistic political chance of getting that done given the GOP control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. “Do whatever you can in the meantime to make sure your employees feel confident about where they are at”. And if it fails, Republican voters will be disappointed and disgusted with their leaders, and thus more likely to stay home.
As Vox reports, it is still unclear how many people it will cover with medical insurance or how much it will cost the nation.
Reps. Kevin Brady of Texas and Greg Walden of OR, chairmen of the committees where the bill will be marked up on Wednesday, repeatedly invoked Trump’s support for the bill during a press conference on Monday, signaling that a no vote will be a vote against the president’s wishes.
