‘Send Your Kids To Govt Schools’, Allahabad HC Directs UP Officials, Politicians
Allhabad: Taking serious note of prevailing pathetic conditions in primary schools in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court in a significant move on Tuesday directed the chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh government to ensure that children of government officials, people’s representatives and judicial officials were sent to government schools.
The UP chief secretary was directed to ensure those who drew salaries from the state exchequer should send their children to government schools.
The order will be implemented from the next academic session.
The court also directed him to submit a compliance report immediately after the lapse of six months.
During the course of hearing, the court noted the deplorable condition of these schools and observed that although they are catering to the needs of 90% population of children, their condition could only be described as shabby. As per the HC order, anyone who does not comply with this order will have to deposit an amount equal to the school fees to the state exchequer.
The directive came in reponse to the writ petitions filed by Umesh Kunar Singh and some other petitioners.
“Besides, such person, if in service, should be made to suffer other benefits like increment, promotional avenues for a certain period, as the case may be”, the court said, adding “this is only illustrative”.
The decision of Allahabad High Court would help in improving the deteriorating status of the quality of education of primary and secondary education in Government schools of the state, and its success may give the boost of the same at India level. They may also raise other concerns like lack of facilities and poor educational standards.
