Sergio Ramos’ future at Real Madrid remains unclear
However, it has become increasingly apparent in recent weeks that proposal will not be accepted, with Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez recently stating he was “100 per cent” sure Ramos would stay.
The Spanish worldwide had been heavily liked with a move to Manchester United this summer after he had made claims about feeling slighted by the club’s hierarchy, whom he felt didn’t value him for his true worth (via Daily Mirror). Reports suggest that Ramos’ deal will be announced just before the start of the new campaign in August and he will earn almost €9 million per season.
The revelation could be bad news for David de Gea, who intended to join Real Madrid from United this summer. To play for the biggest club in the world is a dream come true for me.
Ramos may very well want to leave or be intent on leaving but Madrid are insistent – both publicly and privately – that they will hold their newly appointed captain to his contract.
However, Real manager Benitez is confident the 29-year-old central defender will remain with Los Blancos following talks with club president Florentino Perez in China.
As a result, United may move for Everton’s John Stones.
Was Sergio Ramos serious about leaving Real Madrid?
Despite the fanfare surrounding his signing, Schweinsteiger has failed to impress so far on United’s pre-season tour of the United States.
United, remember, still have Victor Valdes available and have just signed Argentine global Sergio Romero on a free transfer.
“I would like to see him at the beginning of the season playing for us. I think United saw an opportunity, but I don’t think he’s using United to get a raise in his salary”.
Agent and brother Rene Ramos and club director Jose Angel Sanchez were also at the meeting, according to reports from Spain.
