Series of explosions rocks Texas oil field chemical supplier
According to reports by ABC13, it is not yet known if there are any injuries or how the explosions occurred. Residents are asked to turn off their air conditioners, to prevent fumes from being inhaled, and to keep doors and windows closed.
DrillChem is an oil industry supply company that creates sealants, shale inhibitors and lubricants, according to the company’s website.
“Sometimes the best plan of attack may be not any attack at all”, Fire Marshal Williams advised the local news stations about the DrillChem explosion. “So far, they haven’t found anything concerning”.
Firefighting paperwork reviewed by KPRC 2 shows flammable chemicals at the company and cautions firefighters that some chemicals may froth if water or foam is sprayed on them.
There is another oilfield service company that also uses the same name however, this company is located in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Mike Legoudes, fire marshal for the city of Conroe, said it appears nobody was inside the DrillChem plant and that nobody was injured.
The fire was reported at Drill Chem at 4301 S Loop 336 E in Conroe.
A shelter in place has been issued for anyone within a two-mile radius of the plant. There’s been no word of injuries amidst the confusion that has followed the explosion.
Police are shutting down nearby roads. The fire sent a broad, dense column of thick, black smoke towering into the otherwise blue skies, making it visible for miles.
