Service, silence to mark anniversary of Michael Brown death
Tuesday marks the 2nd anniversary of the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.
Mama Fatou, 66, brought her grandson and two other young children to the memorial service, and said she still feels sad, especially for Brown’s parents. It led to months of sometimes-violent protests in Ferguson. And when a grand jury decided against any criminal charges against Wilson three months later, the unrest returned not only to Ferguson but spread across much of the nation. He resigned in November 2014. August 9 marks the second anniversary of Brown’s fatal shooting by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.

The investigation resulted in an agreement this year between the federal agency and the city calling for sweeping changes. Shields comforted a little girl who was crying at the service.
Today, on August 9, we remember Michael Brown. To honor Brown and the impact his death has had in the past two years, Chicago groups are planning a morning moment of silence, a sign-making event and an evening march Tuesday.
