Seth Meyers Bans Donald Trump from Late Night
So far, Trump has been on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, but Meyers will uphold his ban until the Washington Post gets their credentials back. Although now, maybe that you can’t have it, you’re changing your mind!
“Trump is stoking fear and spreading hate”, Seth said.
As Seth Meyers pointed out, Trump responded to the mass shooting in Orlando that took the lives of 49 victims by seemingly suggesting that “President Obama sympathized with terrorists”. According to TheWrap, Meyers’ “Late Night” ratings are up 5% in total viewers (1.58 million from 1.51 million), year-over-year, and he’s still beating his time-slot competition, “The Late Late Show with James Corden”.
It’s a amusing bit, to be sure, but man, wouldn’t it be better to have more females and minorities in late night instead of needing to call them in to pinch-hit on certain types of jokes? But by the end, the writers allowed Meyers to finally tell his own punchline – and the host chose one about new and diverse emojis. For more on this, it’s time for a closer look.
Given that we’re talking about a feud now between a late-night talk show and a bombastic politician, we certainly expect this to go on a little while.
Trump will not be phased by the growing list of networks and talk shows banning him, he will in turn, be happy that the spotlight is continuing to shine on him.
That same night, the 42-year-old Late Night host addressed Donald Trump’s comments on the Orlando Shooting and said he’s not welcome on the show.
Trump also tried to champion himself as a leader for LGBT rights telling Fox News he’s better than Hillary Clinton for the gay community. These include the National Enquirer’s allegation that Ted Cruz’s father was with Lee Harvey Oswald before Oswald shot John F. Kennedy.
Meyers dedicated part of his show last night to assuring viewers that the ban was still very much in effect, though he doubted Trump “would ever be caught dead here”.
