Seth Meyers Kicked Off the Emmy Award on Hilarious Note
Seth Meyers, 40, the American actor, screen writer and producer, appeared on the stage of Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre on Monday, August 25, 2014. He took the stage during the opening of Emmy awards.
He kicked off the awards show
The famous television star and comedian initiated the award function on a high note, riffling on the whole thing starting from MTV to Beyonce to the dreary performance of NBC to the actor’s drug consumption.
Meyers comment on odd timing
“This year we’re doing the Emmys on a Monday night in August,” stated Meyers. He recognized the show’s strange schedule that was conducted on Monday evening for the first time in 40 years. He also added that such an odd timing of the show, according to him, indicates the cancellation of the Emmys.
Meyers joked about the award show
Further he went to state that such a peculiar timing was because of the NBC’s preparation on Sunday night Football plus the MTV’s Video Music Awards that went on air on August 24, 2014, Sunday. Further, on a lighter note or rather jokingly, Meyers also commented that “MTV still has an awards show for music videos, even though they no longer show music videos”. No doubt, the popular TV personality has a great humour sense. According to what Meyer remarked, it was kind of a network TV hosting an awards program and conferring all the awards to Netflix and cable. He joked, “That’s like network TV holding an awards show and giving all the awards to cable and Netflix.”
Meyers further unfavourably compared the Emmys with the lustrous Oscars as well as the Golden Globes. He said, “Here, everyone sits silently in one place and just waits for the pills to kick in. Tonight, we are all crazy eyes.”
For HBO he said, “Congratulations to HBO — they have 99 nominations tonight, the most of any network. Not to be outdone, NBC is also a network. HBO is like the kid you grew up with who ended up doing much better than you expected. 99 nominations. When I first met HBO, all he had was Grease 2 and Fraggle Rock.”
