“The bottom line is this: Trump built his career on a racist lie because he’s a racist and a liar, and instead of denouncing that lie, the GOP doubled down on it completely”, Meyers continued.
“Next I assume he’s going to announce that water is wet, bears poop in the woods and Donald Trump is not qualified to be president”, he quipped.
Colbert notes, as reported by The Washington Post, that if Trump were to actually make good on the $5 million contribution, it would amount to more than the total of all of the Republican presidential candidate’s other documented charity donations. He unleashed one of the angriest and most powerful rants directed at Trump’s birtherism claims to date on Monday night before following up Tuesday with a segment poking at him (and the media) for the response to the bombings in New York City and New Jersey.
“Back then, I had a super PAC full of secret campaign cash and I offered to donate $1 million to the charity of your choice if you, Donald Trump, would let me dip my balls in your mouth”, Colbert recalled. We’re not insane, we were there. “And I know you didn’t because I was alive and on TV”.
“That’s a firm grasp of the obvious”, Colbert said, after playing a clip of Trump announcing that Obama was born in the United States, which was taken from a press conference the candidate held this past Friday. We all saw you do it.
Trump never apologized for pursuing and promoting the birther lie for so long, and even managed to lie again by saying Hillary Clinton started the rumors and that it was in fact one Donald Trump who put an end to all of that nonsense. “Even the people who support you saw you do it – it’s why they support you!”
“F- you, exclamation point”, both Colbert and Meyers said after clips of Trump’s remarks were shown on CBS’ “The Late Show” and NBC’s “Late Night”.
“You can’t say the words, ‘A bomb went off in NY, ‘ if the next thing you say is, ‘Nobody knows what’s going on, ‘” Meyers responded.
“Now, for some reason, Donald, you did not take the deal”, he said.
