Seventeen dead in Florida school shooting
Police in the USA state of Florida has charged a 19-year-old suspected of shooting students and adults at his former school with 17 counts of premeditated murder. At least one occurred when a gun unintentionally discharged.
Parents raced to the school of 3300 students and a nearby hotel that was set up as a checkpoint to find their children.
He showed up Wednesday with an AR-15 assault-style rifle and “multiple magazines” of ammunition. The victims have not yet been named at the time of this post. A Florida judge has ordered that the suspect in a deadly shooting rampage at a high school will be held without bond on 17 counts of murder.
Cruz, 19, was identified Wednesday as the suspected shooter at Marjory Stoneman Douglas.
Students at the school said there were plenty of red flags about Cruz, who was expelled a year ago after a fight with his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.
After the shooting, BSO says he concealed himself in the crowd and was among those running out of the school. All he would talk about was guns, knives and hunting, they added. “We actually, a lot of kids threw jokes around Ike that, saying that he’s the one to shoot up the school, but it turns out everyone predicted it”. Students commented on the shooter, stating they “were not surprised” to find out it was Cruz and that he did not have many friends.
A law enforcement official told CNN earlier Thursday the Federal Bureau of Investigation had received two reports regarding potential threats from the shooter.
In his posts on the social media platform, Nicolas de Jesus Cruz, 19, shared several disturbing photos of himself showing off weaponry including hunting knives and pistols, along with other worrying images and captions.
Born in September 1998, Nikolas was adopted by his mother Lynda Cruz.
A family member of the suspect told ABC News that Cruz was adopted as an infant by Roger and Lynda Cruz, both of whom are now deceased.
“Everybody that knew of him had a sort of suspicion about him”, Mutchler said.
Dice said that students shouldn’t be posting on Snapchat. “He always had guns on him and stuff like that”.
Jim Lewis said the family is devastated and didn’t see this coming.
Cruz’s mother Lynda Cruz died of pneumonia on November 1 neighbors, friends and family members said, according to the Sun Sentinel. “He was a little quirky and he was depressed about his mom’s death, but who wouldn’t be?”
