Several injured in Florida high-rise condo explosion
The official Twitter account for Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue reports that the explosion took place at the Chateau Beach Residences, located at the intersection of 174th Street and Collins Avenue in Sunny Isles Beach, about 20 miles north of Florida.
Several people were hurt after an explosion shook a high-rise in the Miami area on Friday.
A firefighter confirmed to WSVN that two people were stuck in an elevator, forcing Miami-Dade firefighters to use the stairs.
“When I turned, I saw (the concrete) was coming down”, a witness told the TV station. Debris fell to the beach below, as well as onto the pool deck of the Monaco Oceanfront Resort next door. “We are on scene with Ocean Rescue, assisting them as they need us”, said Sunny Isles Beach Sgt. Brian Schnell in a news statement today.
Yomer Vega, an air conditioning worker who was working alongside two plumbers described the scene to The Associated Press. “My heart was pumping, pumping, pumping”. The building, still under construction, offers condos ranging from 1,500 square feet to 9,000 square feet, according to the developer’s website.
