Several people shot at parade in New Orleans park
Several people were shot Sunday night during at a party a parade in New Orleans’ Bunny Friend park, police said.
The incident occurred as about 500 people were at the playground to shoot a music video, WWL reports.
According to the Times-Picayune, police had been monitoring the second line parade, but were beginning to leave before the shooting happened.
“We are now told there are 16 victims taken to several hospitals in the area UMC [University Medical Centre] has 10 victims there”.
Police said at least two gunmen opened fire into the crowd at the park, WWL-TV reports.
New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison told NBC stationWDSU that the shootings, which occurred shortly before 7 p.m. (8 p.m. ET), may be gang-related.
Landrieu last January said the number of murders in New Orleans previous year reached a 43-year low at 150, the lowest since 1971.
The Times-Picayune reported that as of Sunday the city’s 2015 murder rate stood at 138.
