Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Hamilton
A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for western, central and northern Massachusetts until 11 p.m. Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, the storms may produce heavy rainfall, flash flooding, wind gusts in excess of 60 miles per hour and isolated tornadoes. Timing of the frontal passage is a little uncertain – should the front delay somewhat, another round of severe thunderstorms could occur in the afternoon, most likely in southern and eastern portions of our area. A severe thunderstorm watch means there’s the potential for severe thunderstorms.
Officially, it was the warmest day of the year so far. Now that’s Texas hot.
The severe thunderstorm watch is in addition to a heat warning, and heat alert – both of which remain in effect – as humidex values peak in the low 40s. The remainder of the Chicago area is in the light-blue-shaded area depicting a 40% chance of thunderstorms within 12 miles of a given location. A high of 24 is expected Tuesday with less humidity. But, behind that front high pressure keeps us fairly quiet through the beginning of next weekend.
