Severe Weather In Texas Pictures: Tornado, Heavy Rains, Flash Flooding In
A tornado watch was in effect for the Austin and San Antonio areas through midday Friday.
A possible tornado was reported in Floresville, Texas, outside of San Antonio on Friday morning.
The Austin airport has temporarily closed its airfield due to torrential rains and heavy winds rolling through Central Texas.
The Floresville area also has a clean up ahead-after the high school there was severely damaged by the weather. Weather was being monitored for flooding across Texas and the lower Mississippi Valley Friday after the area has received heavy rainfall over the past week.
The Weather Channel reports that tornados may have hit D’hanis and Floresville, destroying a bank and damaging other buildings in D’hanis, and damaging a school in Floresville. This includes areas like northern San Antonio and New Braunfels.
A few schools and counties were updating parents and the public on Twitter as the weather continued to change. The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Emergency for Bexar, Comal and Hays counties at 9:45 a.m. EDT.
Several students and adults were rescued when their school bus became stranded in high water near San Antonio.
The Blanco River, whose waters caused the deadly floods, was at 13 feet and expected to rise another 10 feet later Friday, according to KVUE-TV in Austin. You can check which rivers are nearing flood levels on the National Weather Service website.
Severe weather is likely to continue in much of Texas throughout the day on Friday, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
