Sevilla ends Real’s 40-game unbeaten run
Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to be enjoying a well-earned rest from Real Madrid duty as the Portugal star went shopping with his son, Cristiano Jnr.
“This is my first win and against a great team like Real Madrid”. Ramos equalised with an own-goal after 84 minutes and Stefan Jovetic landed the killer blow when he shot past Keylor Navas in injury-time to give Sevilla the win.
Real Madrid will get a chance to come back from their disappointing results when they head to the Copa del Rey Quarter-final game on January 18th. But, it was a huge victory for Jorge Sampaoli’s side, who are now sitting at the second spot in the table one point up above Barcelona. Real Madrid had control of the game with a 1-0 lead, but let it slip in the last five minutes before the end of regulation with two consecutive goals.
Real Madrid’s incredible run of 40-games unbeaten has finally been brought to an end after they lost 2-1 to high-flying Sevilla in La Liga.
After Stevan Jovetic put Sevilla ahead, Ronaldo looked at Ramos and exploded.
Sevilla, the Copa del Rey victor in 2007 and 2010, also finished third in the league in 2009. The own goal, I don’t know if it was Sergio, but it’s okay, this is football.
There is little question their squad is superior to Sevilla, who sit a point behind in second place but having played a game more.
After a skirmish between the two sets of players following the awarding of the penalty, Ronaldo stepped up to score his 12th LaLiga goal of the season.
It was not the exhausted display of a team about to fall apart under the weight of the fixture list. Their latest defeat came away at Valencia, which would not normally be considered too embarrassing, but which must be treated as a disappointment this season given the tough time Valencia had been going through.
