Shah Rukh Khan launches Facebook’s new app
Facebook has introduced a “live streaming” function in its app Mentions, that caters exclusively to celebrities helping them connect with their fans/followers.
The app has been designed to let the celebrities share a slice of their life, live with their fans.
And for SRK, it turned out to be a useful app to interact with his fans in a live video format.
Not only is the video streamed live, but it is added to each respective Facebook page for fans to view later!
But also unlike Periscope, which stores uploaded videos for 24 hours only, and Meerkat, which immediately deletes videos, Facebook will keep the videos for as long as the celebrity or public figure concerned has not deleted them.
This archive feature is what makes this different from other services such as Meerkat and Periscope, Facebook’s version allows fans to comment on streams as they are happening, as well as showing the celeb how many people are watching them at any given time. When a celebrity with the Mentions app starts a broadcast, a video with the Live tag goes out on the News Feed.
With the help of Facebook Mentions, the celebrities can get close to and interact with their fans easily. We want to get feedback from both public figures and viewers as we evolve the product.
Facebook also announced that celebrities Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Serena Williams, Luke Bryan, Ricardo Kaka, Ashley Tisdale, Lester Holt, Martha Stewart and Michael Buble would be broadcasting videos via Mentions in the coming days.
