Shah Rukh Khan receives Congress’ support over his comments on intolerance Nov
“Hafiz Saeed and Shah Rukh Khan speak the same language”.
Yogi Adityanath said there was no difference between the actor and the founder of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant group Hafiz Saeed, who India and the U.S. accuse of masterminding the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
He said when certain forces are trying to impose their wills on others fraught with unsafe implications for the country, the Prime Minister has not underscored the need to forge unity to promote diversity. “Several such incidents happened when Congress was in power but then they were mum”, she said. A similar protest was carried out by Congress in Bengaluru city where Modi was criticized for not being able to contain the growing cases of religious intolerance in the country. He later retracted his statement but had added that had there been intolerance in India, Shah Rukh would not have been the most popular actor after Amitabh Bachchan.
Just three years ago, he was detained at a United States airport by security officials, and his comment to them “I am Khan and I am not a terrorist” – alluding to his Muslim faith – gave him a cult status for speaking out against racial profiling. “We all are Indians”, Salman said. “My mother is Sushila Charak, my father is Salim Khan”. “‘Aap Khud socho?’ We all are here, we are sitting beside each other, does anything make it different?”
Claiming that he finds this issue silly, Shah Rukh further said that creative people have nothing to do with it. Politics of the two countries should be handled by the politicians and inter-culture exchange of artists between the two countries doesn’t change anything.
“I don’t think there is any atmosphere of intolerance in the country”. He said people should go where their heart lies. “He says something and then I have to come and (explain)”.
Senior minister M Venkaiah Naidu said this morning, “It is not view of the party”.
Shiv Sena showed on Wednesday surprising support for Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan after he recently came under fire by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.
“My daughter wants to learn acting but I don’t know where to send her in India. He is a national icon and we are proud of him”.
