Shakira to voice gazelle in upcoming Disney movie ‘Zootopia’
The global pop diva also will lend her voice to the character Gazelle who lives in the wholly animal city.
Shakira will voice the part of Gazelle, a pop star in the mammal metropolis of Zootopia, where a police lieutenant bunny and a fugitive fox are forced to team up when they become targets of a conspiracy. Given the track record of recent Disney animated films for stellar original music such as Fall Out Boy’s “Immortals” in “Big Hero 6” and Idina Menzel’s “Let it Go” from “Frozen”, there are enough reasons to set expectations high for Shakira’s performance.
“Zootopia” is a first for the Grammy-winning artist, who has worked on the soundtrack for various TV shows including “Pretty Little Liars” and “Silicon Valley”, but has never voiced a character for a feature film before. “You fall in love with her [Goodwin’s] character instantly”. The news was announced at this year’s D23 EXPO, fans learned via a taped message from Shakira earlier today. Byron Howard (Tangled) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph) are directing the animated film. Shakira has also served as a judge on the singing-competition reality series The Voice.
