Shanghai Disneyland plans Star Wars, Marvel attractions
Disney earlier this year delayed the opening of Shangai Disneyland until the first half of 2016 from a scheduled start at the end of 2015 as it expanded plans for the park.
This new park will arguably be the most unique in the world, embracing local Chinese culture while debuting brand new experience seen nowhere else.
The upcoming Shanghai Disneyland will boast six themed lands, some specially designed for Chinese guests.
Mickey Avenue: The main entrance to the park, with designs inspired by Mickey Mouse and other cartoon characters, as well as meet-and-greets with employees dressed up as them.
Gardens of Imagination will include Fantasia Carousel, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, live entertainmet, and “Ignite the Dream, a Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light” fireworks as well as a parade called “Mickey’s Storybook Express”. Disney’s innovative use of technology has produced a land where guests will go to infinity and beyond on Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue, a new space ranger adventure, or break the bonds of gravity on Jet Packs. The land will feature a massive, color-shifting canopy near the TRON Lightcycle Power Run.
Disney is expected to make a formal announcement of all of the attractions, hotels, and experiences that will be available on opening day at Shanghai Disney Resort within the next day. The Star Wars attraction allow guests to visit set-pieces, props and memorabilia from the most recent movie, while Marvel Universe offers the chance to attend a “multimedia mission briefing” on Marvel characters. In this fairy-tale paradise, guests will float through familiar Disney stories on Voyage to the Crystal Grotto, hitch a rollicking ride on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and take flight over the skies of London on Peter Pan’s Flight.
Treasure Cove will be an entire land themed to Pirates of the Caribbean, including the new high-tech Battle of Sunken Treasure ride. It will feature a new “Pirates” attraction, as well as a pirate ship for visitors to explore and a canoe ride.
Shanghai Disneyland, the first theme park of its kind in Mainland China, will be a world of possibilities and a place to create memories that last a lifetime.
