Shannon Doherty has breast cancer, sues former managers
In the legal documents obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer back in March. Apparently, they dropped the ball on maintaining her medical insurance premiums, leaving her uninsured during the time when her breast cancer was unknowingly spreading.
In response to the lawsuits, Tanner Mainstain gave this response to the Hollywood Reporter: “Tanner Mainstain is saddened to learn that Ms. Doherty is suffering from cancer and wishes her a full recovery”.
TMZ learned from the lawsuit filed against Tanner, Mainstain, Glynn & Johnson that her health insurance was canceled after the company didn’t make a payment in 2014. She says during the lapse period before she could re-enroll for the policy in 2015 she didn’t regularly visit doctors, which had previously been her practice. She claims her doctor told her the cancer spread during 2014 when she was uninsured.
“In November 2013, SAG sent the premium invoice to Tanner Mainstain for Plaintiff’s medical insurance coverage for the year 2014”, the suit read.
“In truth, the firm and former partner [Steven] Blatt specialize in fleecing actors and entertainment industry professionals”, states a complaint alleging breach of contract, fiduciary duty, conversion, negligence and more.
And now the star is suing her manager for putting her health in jeopardy, claiming that her management team did not properly manage her health insurance and finances. “The firm has hallmarks of a Ponzi scheme”.
Shannen Doherty, 44, went to Los Angeles Superior Court on August 19 to pursue a lawsuit against the business management firm of Tanner Mainstain.
Doherty’s husband, photographer Kurt Iswarienko, also is suing the firm, accusing them of mismanaging the couple’s money and leading to other financial troubles, including tax audits and liens.
