Shelby Miller traded to Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks have a limited lineup beyond Paul Goldschmidt and A.J. Pollack, with Yosmani Tomas still remaining a Wild Card.
On Tuesday morning, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported on MLB Network that the Cubs were no longer talking with the Braves about a trade involving Miller.
This makes three of the Braves’ top five or six prospects that came from the Diamondbacks system, with Swanson (the new No. 1) and Blair joining Touki Toussaint, who was picked up in a salary dump last summer.
Swanson will be groomed to replace shortstop Andrelton Simmons, who was traded to the Los Angeles Angels in the offseason. Perhaps Aaron Blair (the 23-year-old right-handed pitcher in the deal) becomes Chris Tillman or something better. He was the guy the Braves continued to ask about, he was the guy everyone wanted, he was the guy we all thought we’d have if we got rid of Miller….well, that’s not the case and I’m very okay with this.
And don’t forget that the 2015 Diamondbacks scored the second-most runs in the National League (behind the Colorado Rockies but ahead of both the Giants and Dodgers). Pollock in any potential deal for Miller, but the star outfielder is not included in Tuesday’s trade, a source told ESPN’s Buster Olney.
Miller, in one season with the Braves after being traded by the St. Louis Cardinals, compiled a 6-17 record with a 3.02 ERA in 205 1/3 innings. The D-Backs turned down such a request, and rightfully so, as Pollock was an All-Star, a Gold Glove victor and finished 14th in the NL MVP voting. They can then round out the rotation with Robbie Ray and either Rubby De La Rosa or Chase Anderson. 303 with 38 extra-base hits, 45 RBIs and 21 stolen bases.
He played in 22 games in 2015, hitting.289/.394/482 with seven doubles, three triples and a home run. Their rotation is set for the coming years with Greinke, Miller, Patrick Corbin and Archie Bradley.
