Sheriff: 4 marking milestones likely died of carbon monoxide
Four people from Massachusetts were found dead in a cabin in Byron, Maine.
The four drove to the cabin on Tuesday to celebrate a graduation and birthday, according toOxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant.
According to authorities, the four died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Officials said there were two female and two male victims between the ages of 18 and 22, according to WCVB-TV.
A phone listing for the Wakelin family rang unanswered Saturday.
It was left running and they went to bed without shutting the generator off.
Gallant said he believes that “maybe sometime that night or early Wednesday morning they were all overcome by carbon monoxide”. “You never have a generator in the house”.
The cabin does not have electricity so it is powered by a generator in the basement.
Two of the victims, Brooke Wakelin and her boyfriend Norris were found in a downstairs bedroom, Gallant said.
The identities of the dead, who were from Massachusetts, have yet to be released, he said.
