Sheriff Encourages ‘Good’ Guys to Stop ‘Bad’ Guys With Guns
“Enough is enough” when it comes to terrorism – that’s the message Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey posted on Facebook late Sunday, telling residents now is the time to bear arms.
Sheriff Ivey, in his near seven-minute video, said that people must prepare themselves for the possibility of an attack.
“If you’re a person that is legally licensed to carry a gun, now is the time to realize you, and you alone, may be the first line of defense for you, your family and others around you in a terrorist or active shooter based scenario”.
In the video, Ivey encouraged guns as just one way to stop an active shooter. This is about saving your life.
During the Tuesday morning segment, Ivey responded to Former NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly’s statement that police officers are much better trained and that someone who is not well-trained with a gun could “compound that mayhem”. “You could be shot by the active shooter, you could be shot by other concerned citizens carrying firearms and you could be shot by law enforcement”, said McKinnon.
Florida Sheriff Wayne Ivey has always been vocal about gun rights.
Ivey said the reaction to the video is not what he expected.
The sheriff made clear he is “in no way” calling for vigilantism.
Ivey said for people who oppose firearms, anything they can get a hold of to help protect themselves is something they should be mindful of, during what he calls a unique time in American history.
The video has more than two million views, 25,000 shares and more than 1,000 comments.
“What we said is we are not talking about a vigilante roll here”.
“Seriously?!” said Valerie Nichols. You do want to overreact.
