Sheriff: Face-biting suspect may have ingested chemical
After he’s medically cleared to leave, Harrouff will be arrested on first-degree murder and other charges.
An initial test for common street drugs – including marijuana, cocaine and heroin – showed no traces of them in Harrouff’s system. When the teen first arrived at the hospital, deputies said he told them, “Test me, you won’t find any drugs”.
Martin County Sheriff’s Office deputies said 19-year-old Austin Harrouff is suspected of brutally killing a couple in their home on Kokomo Lane more than a week ago. The results of more extensive testing to determine whether he may have ingested bath salts or flakka are still pending.
The sheriff’s office confirmed that Harrouff will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the middle aged couple’s death, and one count of attempted first-degree murder for the stabbing of the couple’s neighbor Jeff Fisher.
A stun gun seemed to have no effect on Harrouff, who appeared to have “abnormal strength”, Snyder said.
So far the events have unrolled with Harrouff beginning his night at Duffy’s for a family dinner.
Security footage showed Harrouff calmly walking out of the restaurant, clad in a blue polo shirt, white trousers and and a backward Make America Great Again hat around 8:30 p.m.
Next up, deputies say, was a three-mile walk to Kokomo Lane.
Also Monday, WPEC-Ch. 12 reported that one of its photojournalists found a pair of shorts some distance from the crime scene and handed the evidence over to detectives. The sheriff confirmed the department is reviewing the shorts as evidence and that Harrouff wasn’t wearing trousers during the attack. When he was first hospitalized, Harrouff had hand surgery to fix wounds that CBS12 reported could have been self-inflicted on his trek to the Kokomo Lane home.
“That’s what makes this so hard for all of us to process”, he said.
John Stevens and Michelle Mishcon were killed at their home last week.
He said the extreme carnage in the garage and on the bodies makes it hard to determine what weapons were used, but the autopsy reports show Michelle was beaten to death and John was stabbed and beaten. Their bodies were found in the garage and driveway. “There are no words we can offer that we can make up for the injury sustained by Jeff Fisher who is doing what we would want all good neighbors to do which was to try to help innocent people from being hurt or killed”. Harrow stabbed Fisher five times. A broken handle of vodka may have been used, Snyder said, along with the switchblade Harrouff carried.
