Sheriff Joe to endorse Trump
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a nationally known but controversial immigration hard-liner, on Tuesday officially endorsed Donald Trump for president. He produces results and is ready to get tough to protect American jobs and families. Arpaio, a hard-line immigrant opponent, will give Trump valuable credibility among conservatives whose top priority is securing the border.
“That explains most of what you’ve seen come behind Donald Trump in one way or another”.
Arpaio has served as Maricopa County sheriff since 1993, he once flirted with his own gubernatorial run, and has called himself “America’s toughest sheriff”.
His endorsement of Trump will likely be applauded by anti-immigration activists who say Arpaio’s uncompromising efforts are necessary because of the federal government’s inaction on the issue. I thank him for his support of my policies and candidacy for President.
On stage about an hour ago ago, Arpaio stood next to Trump and called him a “great patriot”.
“We must restore law and order on the border and respect the men and women of our police forces”. He said any undocumented immigrant returning to the USA after being deported under a Trump administration would be entering only after having followed the legal process.
The New York Times reports Arpaio will throw his support behind the New York billionaire during an appearance in Marshalltown, Iowa.
The endorsement is expected to be part of Trump’s closing arguments during the Iowa caucuses.
Arpaio will appear with Trump in Marshalltown, according to the campaign, a month after appearing at a Trump rally in his home state/The Hill.
