Sheriff: Man kills 2 sons, then shoots self in Statesville
Channel 9 dug into Fuller’s criminal background and obtained arrest reports from the Chenango County, New York, Sheriff’s Office. The suspect did make a statement to the witness over the phone ” That he had killed his kids, and would kill law enforcement”.
Campbell said that deputies working on the case will receive counseling to help them deal with the situation.
Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell said deputies were dispatched after a caller reported a man firing shots on Trent Road just after 3:30 a.m. The reports say Fuller had been drinking and got into an altercation with the boys’ mother.
“They were so smart, so adorable, they were vibrant”, she said. The two boys were brothers and lived in the home with their parents.
The person who called 911 was Fuller’s brother, who was at the house at the time but was apparently not injured. Fuller’s Facebook page says he’s from Cooperstown, New York.
Fuller’s next door neighbor, Ronnie Patterson, told local media that Fuller and his family moved into the home around Christmas of a year ago.
Josiah Fuller, 3, and Uriah Fuller, 4, were shot by Fuller early Sunday morning before he turned the gun on himself, Campbell said.
Fuller’s neighbors are shocked and saddened by the tragedy.
At the residence, officers found Fuller lying in the doorway of his home unconscious with a gunshot wound to the head.
“There were a lot of cars in and out all the time”, the woman said. What are you supposed to think?
Patterson said Fuller had high-powered rifles as well as handguns.
Sometimes Fuller drank alcohol while shooting, and sometimes the children or others were there while the shooting took place, Patterson said. He says the shooting went on all day and into the night.
A picture on Fuller’s Facebook page showed a paper target shooting sheet with a human silhouette.
Fuller also made a call to someone else.
