Sheriff’s deputies to offer New Year’s Eve safe rides

Sure, that time hits just as the ball drops, but there are ways to avoid shelling out all your New Year’s Eve dough on a ride. This annual campaign is aimed at preventing drunk driving during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday season.
But you might not have to beg a friend to be the designated driver.
NSW Taxi Council has warned customers to be aware of their rights when ordering a taxi or ride-share vehicle on New Year’s Eve.
In Columbia, the Mike Campbell Law firm is offering 25 vouchers for free rides from Uber.
“I would hope we’re making a difference”, Uber driver Charles Gresham said.
River City Yellow Cab is teaming up with Logan’s Promise for the 2017 Safe Ride Program. “But with it being so easy with an app on a phone, that’s why we made a decision to partner with Lyft”.
Giles employs 19 drivers.
If you’re not into paying more money for your ride, but don’t want to take public transport, there are other options to lower the cost of getting home. To avoid the fee, be ready to go.
Giles also believes the requirement of debit and credit cards deters many people from Uber.
One app called DRYVER targets people who don’t want to leave their auto in a parking lot overnight and have to find a ride to pick it up the next morning.
“Don’t realize that when they get behind the wheel of auto, not only are they putting themselves at risk, but they’re putting the public at risk”, said Noble. The availability of the rides will also depend on officer call volume.
According to Bryan, the volunteers will pick people up and take them only to their home.
He said customers have resorted to the receptacle eight times over the past year.
Lt. Kevin Kettler of the Wheeling Police Department hopes residents will utilize these transportation options over the weekend.
