Sheriff’s office says 2 officers shot in western Arkansas
No details about the officers’ conditions have been released.
Hollenbeck identified the suspect as 34-year-old Billy Monroe Jones. He said Cooper had been a deputy since 2001.
One of the officers is a Sebastian County deputy and the other is the Hackett Police Chief Darrell Spells.
After the shooting, the suspect barricaded himself inside the house for more than four and a half hours before being arrested.
Jones had 2 pounds of the explosive Tannerite in his home, according to a police spokesman and 40/29 News, and had a license for explosives.
Hackett is about 115 miles west of Little Rock.
Pevehouse didn’t immediately return a phone message seeking details from The Associated Press.
The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Smith Police, Greenwood Police, and Arkansas State Police are on a manhunt for Jones in a heavily wooded area between Greenwood and Hackett, and law enforcement agencies in Oklahoma are also on alert in case Jones moves towards the state line.
Sebastian County EMS and Fort Smith EMS are on standby on the scene.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson says the shooting of two law enforcement officers in western Arkansas underscores the danger officers face statewide.
The incident was reported Wednesday morning in the area of Hwy. Pevehouse did not say why the father was concerned.
Bruce Westerman, talking to reporters after the same event, said, “I’m kind of at a loss for words”.

Both injured officers to transported to a local hospital. The shooting reportedly took place outside a residence while the officers were responding to an unspecified call.
