Sheriff: SC kidnapping suspect linked to more killings
Spartanburg County sheriff Chuck Wright said late on Saturday that warrants were issued charging Todd Kohlhepp with a quadruple murder that baffled police and investigators for 13 years.
Ponder says detectives told her Kohlhepp was an angry customer who had been in the shop several times.
“I needed to be prepared for when they do make an arrest, so we can accept what happened”, she said.
On Sunday, investigators found remains of another body at Kohlhepp’s property.
CBS News correspondent David Begnaud reports the reviews have become a key part of the investigation into Todd Kohlhepp, who has allegedly confessed to killing four people a decade, and may be linked to at least three other murders and a kidnapping since then.
Kohlhepp, who was facing one charge of kidnapping, has yet to enter a plea and doesn’t have an attorney.
The 13th anniversary of the unsolved crime is Sunday, November 6th.
Officers have found found numerous weapons and ammunition, and Wright said Brown told them that as many as four bodies could be buried there.
A man accused of holding a woman prisoner after slaying her boyfriend at a rural property in SC confessed to killing four people in a high-profile cold case that has baffled investigators for more than a decade, authorities said.
Gender, ages and how long the victims have been deceased have not yet been determined, Clevenger said. Barnette said investigators found a bed with chains around it in the living space above the garage.
At a bail hearing Friday, a solicitor told the judge that Brown claimed to have seen Kohlhepp shoot her boyfriend, 32-year-old Charles Carver. “He was in a weird, sick kind of way being, I guess, kind of humane, as far as feeding her”, Herren said.
Missing Pieces Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving families of the missing, abducted or murdered, said it has identified “six or seven other women” who have disappeared close to the area that Brown was found. Most or all of it is surrounded by a chain-link fence 6 to 7 feet tall. That was the total number of bodies I was told was on the property.
The Amazon user posted 140 reviews in all with the bulk coming between May and September 2014 in the months after Kohlhepp purchased the 95 acres of wooded property where Brown was found alive. Carver was the boyfriend of Kala Brown, who was rescued from a metal shipping container on Kohlhepp’s property. The first body was found last week.
The investigation is continuing.
“She’s the hero”, Brackman said.
The man accused of chaining a woman in a storage container for weeks had a violent past and was “preoccupied with sexual content” from a young age.
Investigators will return to the property Tuesday but do not think there are any more bodies there.
“You go to the point where they reference, where they tell you, and you very meticulously take off small layers of soil until you can identify potential for human remains”, Clevenger said. The official said he could not say whether those two bodies were male or female. Kohlhepp also installed deer cameras and put bear traps throughout. He served 14 years in prison for that crime and registered as a sex offender when he got out. More charges are expected. The 45-year-old had to register as a sex offender after his release from prison in Arizona.
