Sheriff to release detail on mom of baby found buried alive
Two deputies found her wrapped in what appears to be a hospital blanket, buried in a hole under loose dirt and piece of asphalt.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Special Victims Bureau is asking for the public’s help with any information regarding the abandonment and endangerment of a newborn baby girl. “And she said, ‘No, that is a baby'”.
A newborn girl is seen in a photo provided by LASD on November 28, 2015, a day after she was found abandoned in Compton.
Police found the infant in Los Angeles after two sisters heard a faint cry from the ground close to their feet.
The department announced in a statement on Sunday that the woman had been taken into custody, and that more details about the case would be disclosed the following morning.
The baby remains in good condition at a local hospital; once she is released, the Department of Child and Family Services will determine where to place her.
“She did not want to deliver the baby”, Ruiz said of Washington on Monday.
Four days later, detectives arrested a woman they identified as the boy’s mother.
Evangelina McCrary and her sister Angelica Blount were out for their daily walk along the riverbed in Compton when they heard a unusual noise.
According to the L.A. Times, authorities believe the baby was born inside a medical facility before being buried.
Through Dec. 2 of this year, 16 babies have been dropped off and four abandoned newborns have survived. “Somebody knows somebody who was pregnant and is no longer, and now there’s no … baby around”. “They are the dumpster babies of old, of another era, and that’s diminishing”, she said.
It’s not clear if Washington knew about the safe surrender law.
