Shock jock formerly of ‘Opie and Anthony’ arrested in fight
Cumia, 54, is charged with strangulation, assault, unlawful imprisonment and criminal mischief, police told TheBlaze.
The arrest comes after an altercation with an unidentified 26-year old woman in his Roslyn Heights home. “I tried to call the police, but he turned the phone off”, she added.
Anthony Cumia, founder of the Opie and Anthony radio show, was arrested over the weekend for allegedly assaulting a 26-year-old woman.
The spokeswoman said only that Cumia “got into an argument with an individual that stemmed into this physical violence”.
Early Saturday morning, around 3am, Cumia was seen arguing with a girlfriend on Periscope. There’s been no news about Dani’s condition or whether she has suffered injuries. Cumia posted a series of tweets claiming he was punched by a woman while he was taking a photograph. The tweets, which were later deleted, used racial generalizations and said it was “open season on white people in this day and age”.
Since summer 2014, Cumia has been hosting “The Anthony Cumia Show”.
Cumia and his co-host Gregg (Opie) Hughes were fired from a radio station in Boston in 1998 after joking about the mayor dying in a auto accident, PIX 11 reported.
Their show was cancelled after a contest produced information from a couple calling in to reveal they were having sex in a church.
