According to CNN, a source familiar to death investigator stated that Joan, 81, went into cardiac arrest when her doctor was performing a biopsy on the vocal cords. The operation was performed on August 28 without the consent of the celebrity.

CNN informed that a staff member of the Yorkville Endoscopy, New York City, told the investigation team that the doctor took selfie while the actress was under anesthesia during the biopsy.

Joan Rivers passed away after a weeklong fight on September 4, 2014. The actress went for routine endoscopy at the clinic of gastroenterologist Dr. Lawrence Cohen. The doctor told Joan about the hoarse throat. Joan’s personal doctor who was present during the checkup requested the Dr. Lawrence to perform biopsy at the clinic. The doctor who accompanied Joan was not a throat specialist, but performed biopsy in the clinic without her consent.

The investigation team believes that while biopsy her vocal cord began to swell, cutting off the oxygen flow and lead to cardiac arrest.

Last week, a statement issued by the Yorkville Endoscopy stated that vocal cord biopsy has ever been done in the clinic. However, there was no name mentioned in the statement.
