Shooter at Umpqua Community College identified
The shooting happened at Umpqua (UMP’-kwah) Community College in Roseburg, about 180 miles south of Portland.

Authorities responded to the Roseburg campus about 10:30 a.m. Thursday after receiving a report of a shooting on campus.
Student Michael O’Sullivan was among those who gathered at Stewart Park. “And then, this man, had enough time, I don’t know how much time elapsed before he was able to stand there and start asking people one by one what their religion was”.
Shoufler described Roseburg as a small close-knit timber community with many locals attending the college which caters to a few 3300 students. It is unclear if the shooter, identified as 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer, was included in that tally.
A visibly angry and frustrated President Obama said in a televised statement Thursday evening that mass shootings have become so routine that “we’ve become numb to this”.
The Oregon State Police said it is believed that there was only one shooter.
Al Jazeera’s Tom Ackerman, reporting from Washington, said the incident was the 45th school shooting in the USA this year.
The adult-learning college has a few 3,300 students and the average age of students is about 38, according to its website. When she looked at us, she said we have to get out now.
