Shootings, stabbings at Denver motorcycle expo leave one dead, seven hurt
Update: Denver Police spokeswoman Raquel Lopez told reporters in a press conference Saturday that one person was killed in the shooting at the Denver Coliseum.
Three people were reported in critical condition at Denver Health Medical Center and three were in stable condition, said Dr. Kevin McVaney, an emergency physician. Nobody had been arrested, she said, though men led away from the event in handcuffs were being questioned.
The incident occurred at the first day of the Colorado Motorcycle Expo.
One of the gangs is listed as major by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and according to 9News, one of the clubs involved has law enforcement personnel as members. The Denver Health campus went on lock down briefly during the incident as a precaution.
One person was fatally shot and three were wounded by gunfire, White said.
Due to Saturday’s violence, the City and County of Denver made the decision to cancel the Colorado Motorcycle Expo on Sunday. Officers will be on the scene Sunday. Lopez did not say whether police believed the incident was gang related.
Police did not release details about what happened and have not released any names. One person was stabbed and three others suffered lesser injuries and were likely involved in a fist fight, according to White.
Police rushed to the Denver Coliseum on Saturday afternoon on reports of multiple shootings and a stabbing, reports our sister station KDVR.
During a news conference tonight, Denver’s police chief said they are not ready to identify the two clubs involved. Commenters noted that new people weren’t being allowed inside the expo after the shooting, but people who were already there were allowed to stay inside.
White said there would be a heavy police presence at the complex Sunday as another event, an indoor dirt bike racing competition, continued as planned.
