Shoppers Look for Last Minute Holiday Gifts on ‘Super Saturday’
Black Friday gets all the hype, but merchants are counting on procrastinators to make the Saturday before Christmas a huge shopping day, too.
Retail analytics solution ShopperTrak says that this year, the “Super Saturday” is predicted to be the second largest sales day for the retailers with a brick-and-mortar outlet. Kohl’s in Cherry Hill won’t close its doors until Christmas Eve. Starting Saturday, Toys R Us said it would remain open until 2 a.m., and then opening for a 39-hour stretch until 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Electronics, jewelry, clothing and more are just some items that the stores say are marked down for potential Christmas gifts.
The holiday season accounts up to 40-percent of some stores’ annual sales.
Retailers will continue rolling out additional discounts in the next few days, analysts predict, especially those nervous after a recent string of sluggish months.
Routes across Leeds and other parts of the region are also expected to be busy today as shoppers search for last minute bargains and gifts and visit friends and relatives, while others are expected to begin the Christmas getaway. Purchases this year are expected to be up over last year, however, experts predict they will not be up as much as originally thought. “Very busy Christmas and we’ve still got a week to go”.
Some shoppers admitted procrastination, but others said they are still waiting for the best deals.
“They have been holding back”.
Banking on the shoppers to come personally and pick up stuff from the shops make the retailers wait eagerly for the last dollars during the shopping season before the year ends.
