Shots fired at Egypt tourist hotel, no one hurt
The hotel is located next to the Pyramids of Giza.
A gang of youths hurled fireworks and fired birdshot at police guarding a hotel near Cairo’s pyramids Thursday where Arab Israelis were staying without hurting anyone, officials and witnesses said.
According to a ministry statement, the shooter was part of a group of about 15 people who threw flares at the hotel’s security post.
Two masked attackers targeted tourists at a hotel close to the famous Giza pyramids, causing damage to the front of the building.
Security sources said the tourists boarding the bus were Israeli Arabs.
An AFP photographer said bits of the facade and the bus’s windows had been broken. He said Israel was briefed on the incident by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
Egyptian jihadists, who have pledged allegiance to Islamic State, have killed hundreds of Egyptian soldiers and police since the army toppled Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in 2013 after mass protests against his rule.
