The Journal also cited Callahan as saying that some shoppers sought refuge in an employee break room amid orders from mall officials to close down and evacuate shoppers.
The East Towne Mall said on its website it was “temporarily closed due to a safety concern”, but provided no further information.
The incident report was updated at 5:50 p.m.to note the mall had reopened, and the scene of the shooting would reopen 30 minutes later. One pulled out a handgun and fired, hitting a 19-year-old.
A 19-year-old man involved in the initial dispute was struck in the leg. He was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. “This is not an act of terrorism”.
The man was shot in the leg after several young men got into some kind of dispute, according to Madison police.
Courtney Lade was inside the mall at the time of the shooting, describing the event, “Everybody was in caos and we didn’t know what happened”.
The dispatcher says no other information is immediately available about the incident. Doing so may result in civil and/or criminal penalties.
