Shots ring out at Miami high school football game
A high school football game in South Florida was ended early, not by a referee’s whistle, but by gunshots.
Shots rang out during the fourth quarter of a high school football game between Miami Central and Carol City Friday night, reports USA Today.
UPDATE 4: The shooting occurred when the Miami Central were leading the match with 36-8 and there was 2:58 minutes still left into the game.
Videos of the incident posted online show players hitting the deck while those off the pitch run for safety as gunshots were heard.
According to police, no one was injured and five people were being questioned.
A witness reported as many as 20 police cruisers at the scene, which was still active late Friday.
“You hate to see anything like that happen, but luckily it seems like no one was hurt”, Miami Central coach Roland Smith said after the game. The scheduled game between Germany and the Netherlands was called off.
