Should Brett Kavanaugh be confirmed as a Supreme Court judge?
Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) canceled a vote to advance his nomination and set up a hearing to address the allegations. Meanwhile, one of Blasey Ford’s high school classmates revealed on Facebook that she remembers hearing about the alleged assault at the time. Kavanaugh has denied the allegation against him.
Flake said this despite a previous statement that he would vote “no” if Ford didn’t get a chance to testify first.
Testifying Monday, however, “is not possible and the Committee’s insistence that it occur then is arbitrary in any event”, Ford’s lawyers wrote. Despite Republican claims that investigations into these matters are the sole responsibility of the Senate, the FBI could open a more extensive investigation.
“As we say in the letter, her experience is consistent with experiences that we have heard and lived and many of us are survivors ourselves”, she said. But the opportunity to do that would be Monday. Ford wants the FBI to investigate her claim before testifying. Ford was later asked to submit prepared testimony and a biography before Friday if she plans to attend the hearing.
This time, the Republicans on the committee are also all men, and they will have to tread delicately in a situation that could end up an intractable he said-she said debate.

U.S. Capitol Police said 56 protesters were arrested in Senate office buildings during demonstrations against Kavanaugh. And, you know, they have identified talking points.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a New York Democrat, said at the event: “Someone who is lying does not ask the FBI to investigate their claims”. Which meant the hearing wouldn’t happen.
Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat at the committee, said on Tuesday that the panel should respect Ford’s wishes and thus delay the Monday hearing which she said is part of a “rushed” process.
“They certainly have not rejected my suggested”, Collins said, referring to the Judiciary Committee. What about the Federal Bureau of Investigation?
Kavanaugh has adamantly denied that he attacked Ford or any other woman, including over his long career in Washington as a White House aide and for the last 12 years as an appellate court judge, one level below the Supreme Court.
“What Ford is now asking for with a full investigation would be a criminal investigation”, the prosecutor went on. But the president himself has basically dismissed that as an option.
“What is happening with the Judiciary Committee, really, I would call it a railroad job”, Senator Mazie Hirono, Democrat of Hawaii, said.
