Should Democrats be the party of ‘No’ in the age of Trump?
Democrats staged a rally outside the Supreme Court last week to protest Mr. Trump’s executive order for extreme vetting at ports of entry for people from seven Muslim-majority nations. If Democrats block the GOP, voters won’t blame Republicans for the failure – especially not after watching months of public demonstrations of spiteful obstruction.
The House is now composed of 240 Republicans and 193 Democrats, following the resignations of Republican Mike Pompeo of Kansas to become director of the Central Intelligence Agency and Democrat Xavier Becerra to become attorney general of California.
The 2016 election was a “white working class revolution”, Wasserman said, but the Democrats can not blame racism for what happened.
It’s long overdue for Trump to accept that he is now required to live up to the demands of decency, restraint and, yes, respect for the office he legally occupies, including commitments to work with America’s hard-won allies in maintaining peace and harmony beyond our shores.
But even in the poll showing the most negative appraisal, Republicans are overwhelmingly supportive.

This system has been known to disproportionately impact minority voters by targeting names common to specific demographics, notably Hispanic and black voters, who have traditionally voted Democratic. The 2018 midterms elections could easily end up being compromised to the point that no realistic degree of popular opposition to incumbent Republicans would be sufficient to overcome them. The worst is sanctuary municipalities distorting US immigration laws while complaining that the federal government may not longer release federal funding to them. Another set of proposals have somewhat broader appeal, and even enjoy some support among Democrats.
This is not only the kind of resistance the Democratic base is looking for, but also what much of the world wants to see and what this moment in history demands – because nothing that’s happened in the first two weeks of Trump’s presidency is in any way normal. Slightly under one third (31%) of Independents believe the media are “about right” in their coverage of Trump.
The ruling by a Seattle court last Friday led to the temporary halting of Mr Trump’s executive order of January 27th, effectively granting those eligible to travel to the USA from seven countries before the order was issued permission to enter the country.
