Shoulder injury pushes back CM Punk’s UFC debut
On Monday, ESPN.com confirmed the former WWE wrestler has suffered a shoulder injury that will delay his premiere by at least one month.
Roufus added that Brooks is scheduled to see a physician on October 14.
As far as making his UFC debut is concerned, Roufus said, depending on how Brooks’ injury heals, plunging into action next summer is a big possibility. The new date that is being talked about is at UFC 200 on July 9, 2016.
As for how Punk got the injury, it occurred while he was training.
The wait for the UFC debut of former WWE Champion CM Punk is going to have to take a little bit longer.
“The UFC will probably book him a fight three to four months in advance – a guy of his magnitude”, Roufus said. Originally, it was expected that he would make his debut in 2015, but that has since been pushed back. The report says that the injury may sideline CM Punk for a month.
“We’re probably looking at a fight in the next six to 10 months”, Roufus said. Now, it looks likely that the soonest Punk will debut in the Octagon will be next spring, or possibly later.
Late past year was when the UFC chose to sign Punk, and this was regardless of the fact that Punk has never competed in MMA or ever had an amateur or professional bout.
In that time, we’ve heard different estimates about when, exactly Punk (or Phil Brooks, the legal name he is sometimes refered to now that he’s left the “fake” pro wrestling world) would step foot inside Dana White’s Octagon and participate in his first sanctioned MMA bout. His progress has been good. “When I saw him lose fights it was traumatic, but it was also inspirational – ‘If that can happen to my brother, who is the greatest, I have to get working.’ Training is everything, and Punk is dedicated to it”.
