Shovel Knight Retail Release Delayed
With all that said, there is good news: Yacht Club has chose to throw a digital copy of the game’s soundtrack into the physical release, to compensate for the price hike.
Shovel Knight’s first batch of free DLC, Plague of Shadows, has recently released and offers a great variety to the Shovel Knight gameplay.
If you had that pre-ordered, you’re out of luck.
Additionally, the physical release for Xbox One has been cancelled, citing publishing policies that are beyond the developer’s control.
Unfortunately, the Xbox One retail release has been canned.
In an update on their website, Yacht Club Games announced that the Wii U and 3DS versions will release on 30 October in Europe and November 3 in North America, due to delays in getting the game pressed following the Plague of Shadows update.
The working gives a few hope of release further down the track, and of course the digital version is available. That won’t happen in time for this holiday season, but the official line is to “hang in there a bit longer”.
“Some retailers ran into trouble with limited space to show off their wares, and the rules in place about where games with certain prices are displayed”, the studio explained. Furthermore, hard copies of the game will sell for $24.99, $5 more than their original asking price of $19.99, and they’ll be packaged with a free download of the game’s soundtrack, as composed by Jake Kaufman. “We didn’t want our “bargain priced” game to go straight to the bargain bin of obscurity, so we had to raise the price”. Many have asked for us to open up preorders in North America – and so do know that we are considering it. Hopefully when we announce the release date we’ll have more info on that front!
