Shovel Knight’s retail release delayed two weeks
Yacht Club Games has provided an update on Shovel Knight’s retail version, now inbound to stores across Europe on October 30th and North America on November 3rd. On top of that, the Xbox One won’t be getting a physical version at all. It’s going to keep fighting for a retail release, but for now the Xbox One boxed version is in “indefinite limbo”. Writing on their official website, “We really gave it our best effort, but unfortunately, because of publishing policies on that platform that are totally beyond our control, we couldn’t make it happen”.
Finally, the Xbox One retail version of Shovel Knight has been cancelled.
So, if you own an Xbox One and want to play Shovel Knight, you’ll just have to download it like the hundreds of thousands of other players who have thoroughly enjoyed it already.
New release dates, price changes, cancellations abound.
The game’s increased price tag comes down to retailers and how Yacht Club Games wanted to avoid Shovel Knight being relegated to the discount section.
“Some retailers ran into trouble with limited space to show off their wares, and the rules in place about where games with certain prices are displayed”, the studio explained. In the meantime, though, Yacht Club Games claims that a Playstation Vita retail edition is still on its way, though they have yet to set a timeframe. To appease fans that may be irritated by the price increase, Yacht Club Games is including the digital version of the game’s soundtrack with every retail copy of Shovel Knight.
If it helps ease the pain at all, Yacht Club have offered a small consolation in that the physical copy will now come with a code to go download that fantastic soundtrack by Jake Kaufman. “Hang in there a bit longer, and hopefully we can make something happen!” Let us know your thoughts below.
It’s possible that the publishing policy issue will be resolved and the physical Xbox One Shovel Knight will appear at a later date.
