Showtime’s ‘Billions’ trailer with Paul Giamatti, Damian Lewis urge you to
The series was created by producers Brian Koppelman and David Levien (“Ocean’s Thirteen”) and acclaimed financial journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin (“Too Big to Fail“) and takes place in the world of New York high finance where the stakes are in the billions.
Follow the money. That’s the message in Showtime’s newest drama, Billions, which stars Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis. Lewis is up for another Emmy thanks to his performance in PBS’ Wolf Hall.
BILLIONS is a bold, contemporary drama that melds the worlds of ultra-wealth, influence and corruption as personified in two highly ambitious opposing figures: hard-charging, blue-blooded, politically connected U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti) and brilliant, calculating, blue-collar billionaire hedge fund king, Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Lewis). Over time, viewers will discover who his character turns out to be and what he’s prepared to do to retain power, the actor said. “They’re driven by different things in their personalities”, he said.
“We’re not moralizing”, said Koppelman. “Stay more open minded, dude”, he scoffed. Can you stop doing that?’ And so my generalized American accent which, you know, please, God, will continue to give me work in your lovely country, is just a, sort of, generic, sort of, Midwest nothing anyone from the Midwest, I apologize.
Whether Billions will be a realistic portrayal of unscrupulous practices of Wall Street that invites further public calls for reform or a glorification of a win-at-all-costs attitude remains to be seen-at 10 p.m. on Sunday, January 17.
