Showtime’s ‘Twin Peaks’ reboot still shrouded in mystery
After some behind the scenes drama, Showtime’s “Twin Peaks” sequel is heading into production next month with director-exec producer David Lynch tackling the project as one long movie that will be sliced into an still-undetermined number of episodes.
Twede’s Cafe in North Bend, WA, which served as the location of the Double R Diner from the show, will be remodeled to serve as the iconic location once again.
During his announcements, Nevins said Twin Peaks starts filming in September, adding, “Thank God”. Its return is something that I’m looking forward to more and more with each passing day.
Mondo has announced that they will be releasing a reissued vinyl pressing of Angelo Badalamenti’s chilling score for the show, as well as his soundtrack for the David Lynch directed prequel Fire Walk With Me.
Series co-creators Mark Frost and David Lynch are returning for the revival with Lynch set to direct all the episodes.
Shooting in September, Nevins still set 2017 as the potential air date, but it is possible it could be ready in 2016. “We eventually got through it”.
“I expect it to be more than nine, but it’s open-ended”, says Nevins. They’re going to shoot the whole thing and then they’re going to start post [production]. “Bottom line is, I’ll take it when they’re ready with it … but I’m hoping sooner rather than later”.
Nevins made a point of showcasing Showtime’s growing slate of documentaries and the initiative that started this year to give some titles theatrical runs under the Showtime Documentary Films banner. “I know what the shooting schedule is and then I’ll let [Lynch] cut into as many episodes as he wants”. It’s not clear. It’s ultimately going to be in their control.
“The documentary form as it’s being handled by filmmakers is much, much more engaging than it was 10 years ago”, Nevins said.
Finally, Nevins says that fans’ questions about the original series will absolutely be answered.
