SIA aircraft falls on nose, none hurt

Singapore Airlines substituted another aircraft the flight to Hong Kong because maintenance was being carried out on the plane involved in the incident. Luckily, no passengers were onboard and the engineer performing the test was not injured.

In a statement, the airline said, via the AP, that the nose gear “retracted while the aircraft was undergoing a landing gear system check”, and the plane collapsed onto the tarmac. According to online flight schedules, SQ890 was scheduled to depart at 7.35am on Sunday morning, but took off instead at 8.18am. The airline then chose to charter another aircraft for safety measures.
Social media images showed the stricken plane, nose-down, at a gate. One engineer was in the A330-300 aircraft at the time but was not hurt, the airline added.
The plane had been due to operate Flight SQ890 after its arrival from Shanghai’s Pudong worldwide Airport after midnight on the same day.
He said the SIA will cooperate with the authorities in the investigation into the incident.
