Significant rainfall expected for London area
Following what may be the most significant summer rainfall for many locales in southern Ontario Aug. 13, more may be on the way on Tuesday Aug. 16. “Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible”.
Tuesday’s rain brings with it the possibility of thunderstorms, Geoff Coulson, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, urges people to keep an eye on the sky and seek shelter if outdoors.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of unsafe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and torrential rain”.
They added that due to the conditions, there is also a risk of the creation of an isolated tornado.
Weather officials say wind gusts could have the potential to damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. A watch is upgraded to a warning when the storm is imminent.

A low pressure system has been slowly tracking towards the province from Texas, with heavier rain beginning earlier Tuesday morning.
Residents are reminded to continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
