Silas Redd Jr., Logan Paulsen Done For Season
Gruden said running back Silas Redd Jr. will miss all of 2015 after suffering a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee during the preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns August 13.
The sixth-year veteran out of UCLA is the team’s top blocking tight end, but at 6-foot-5, 261 pounds, Paulsen has also showed the ability to make plays with the ball in his hand.
Paulsen is entering his sixth season with the Washington Redskins after originally arriving to the organization as an undrafted free agent. Washington could also consider bringing back Chris Cooley.
Dixon, who played at the University of Central Arkansas and spent last season on the Redskins’ practice squad, would prefer the circumstances were different.
Coach Jay Gruden announced that Paulsen will miss the entire season and is scheduled for surgery Monday for a turf toe injury. At this point, Jordan Reed, whose biggest flaw so far has been an inability to stay on the field, is the healthiest experienced tight end the Washington Redskins have, and even he’s dealing with a bad hamstring.
“It’s only preseason right now, so I’m not going to try to rush anything”, Reed said.
“They’re getting better at it”, Gruden said of the young tight ends’ blocking. “We’ll work a couple guys out here shortly, but we have got three players in-house that are capable right now, and we have got to get them better”. “They’re not a finished product, either one of them”.
The regular season is still four weeks away, but the Redskins’ depth chart has been decimated at tight end. Ex-New Orleans standout outside linebacker Junior Galette, who is expected to start opposite Kerrigan after being signed on July 31, finally joined team drills on Saturday but isn’t likely to make his game debut until the August 27 date at Baltimore as he continues to learn the defense and get in football shape.
