Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas compete for more medals
Canadian Shallon Olsen finished eighth in an eight-woman field in the Rio Olympic vault final on Sunday.
What Was Your Favorite Moment From Day 6 of the Rio Games? To pick these teams, Team USA has the luxury of calling on several swimmers who won medals in their individual disciplines, from Lilly King (gold in the 100-meter breaststroke) to Ryan Murphy (gold in the 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke).
Other contenders: Japan, the 2012 silver medalist, and Australia, which took bronze at the last games.
For her next vault, Biles turned to a Cheng – a hard vault that, compared to the Amanar, is worth an extra tenth of a point on the judges’ scale – and performed it almost flawlessly. She spoke briefly with her personal coach, Aimee Boorman, between vaults and came back with an even better showing on her second one, the Cheng, and scored 16.033.
As U.S. Gymnastics tells us, with today’s gold medal, Biles sets a U.S. record for the most gymnastics gold medals in one Olympics for a female athlete.
Moscow native Paseka is a silver and bronze medalist from the London 2012 Olympics, as well as being World and European 2015 women’s vault champion.

Raisman sat with Gabby Douglas and first-time Olympians Madison Kocian and Laurie Hernandez as Biles explained the premonition she felt before competing. Mustafina’s score of 15.9 was just ahead of Kocian’s 15.833.
Mikulak said he “got pretty rattled” by the noise.
NADDOUR’S REDEMPTION: Alex Naddour became the first American since 1984 to earn a medal on pommel horse when he came in a close third behind Smith on pommel horse. They finally have their first two golds thanks to the 23-year-old Whitlock. Uchimura took silver in the floor exercise in London four years ago, and he’s a heavy favorite to take gold this time around.
