Simone Biles Meets Zac Efron at Rio Olympics 2016
After winning five Olympic medals, four of them gold, Simone Biles will headline the gymnastics gala at the Rio Olympics with a final performance on balance beam.
It was a fourth Olympic medal for Biles after her gold in the team, all-around and vault – but not the colour she wanted. It is extremely likely that Biles will be back to continue her domination of the sport, while Raisman and Leyva, who have now attended multiple Olympics, are probably done competing internationally.
Having dominated the competition in Rio, Simone became the first American woman to win four gold medals in a single Olympic Games.
Biles naturally documented the whole thing on Twitter.. “Just call me Mrs. Efron already”. “I don’t really know what to say!” “But I think bronze is still pretty good”.
Chinese rookie Wang Yan finished fifth in the event, which means that the Chinese gymnastics team will have to leave Rio only with two bronze medals from the team finals.
Leyva won silvers in both the parallel bars and high bar Tuesday, giving the US a total of 12 gymnastics medals in Rio, second to the 16 earned at the Eastern bloc-boycotted 1984 Games.
“This is harder than 2012 and that was hard”, said the 22-year-old.
“I felt some pressure”.
Epke Zonderland, known as the “Flying Dutchman”, defends his horizontal bars title with Germany’s Fabien Hambuechen looking to complete his collection of silver and bronze from London and Beijing. “That’s it. Whatever she wants to do, whatever she wants to become, I’m always going to be there for her”. However, arguably the most touching moment came when American Abbey D’Agostino and New Zealander Nikki Hamblin tripped over each other in a women’s 5,000-meter heat, then helped each other finish the race in a stirring display of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
